Cristina Gil focuses on immigration, including but not limited to, family-based immigration, removal defense, deferred action, and asylum. Cristina also handles other legal services for the UNITEHERE Prepaid Legal Services Benefit Plan including domestic relations, estate planning, and probate matters.
Prior to joining Georges & Synowiecki, Cristina was an attorney at The Resurrection Project, where she was an integral member of the Midwest Immigrant Defenders Alliance (MIDA) providing free, high-quality, and accessible legal services to detained immigrants in removal proceedings before the Chicago Immigration Court. Cristina also worked with the Asylum Seeker Advocacy Project (ASAP) providing legal assistance to asylum seekers throughout the United States and abroad.
While attending law school, Cristina served as a Student Attorney with the Immigrant Justice Clinic at American University Washington College of Law representing clients before U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, Immigration Court, and the Board of Immigration Appeals. Additionally, she interned at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Office for Civil Rights and Civil Liberties in Washington, DC. Cristina was previously selected as an HBA-DC Foundation’s Public Interest Fellow to serve as an intern with CAIR Coalition’s Detained Children’s Program providing legal services to immigrant children held in the custody of the Office of Refugee Resettlement in Maryland and Virginia. She also volunteered with the South Texas Pro Bono Asylum Representation Project (ProBar) in Harlingen, Texas providing free legal services to asylum seekers detained at Port Isabel Detention Center.
